writing policy briefings

Half-day masterclass for public sector professionals preparing submissions and briefings for senior decision-makers

For those writing advice, submissions or briefings for ministers, senior leaders or committees, where the message needs to be clear, concise and acted on quickly.

  • By the end of the session, participants will be able to:

    • Get to the key point quickly so the main message is clear from the start

    • Structure briefings so recommendations and supporting information are easy to follow

    • Write with clarity and precision under time and word constraints

    • Adapt tone and level of detail for different senior audiences

    • Balance brevity with enough evidence to support confident decision-making

    • Edit and refine content so it is clear, consistent and ready to use

  • This is a practical, hands-on masterclass.

Participants work through examples of policy writing, including their own where possible. Each section introduces a simple approach, followed by short exercises to apply it immediately.

The focus is on shaping real content so participants leave with approaches they can use straight away in their work.
