speaking with the public
Half-day workshop for public sector professionals speaking with members of the public across a range of situations
Focused on interactions where tone, clarity and presence affect how messages are received and how situations progress.
-
By the end of the session, participants will be able to:
Speak clearly and respectfully in a wide range of public-facing situations
Adjust tone, pace and language to suit different audiences and contexts
Avoid misunderstandings by simplifying spoken language and reducing jargon
Use voice and body language to project confidence without sounding abrupt or dismissive
Handle challenging interactions more steadily, reducing the risk of escalation
Communicate boundaries clearly while maintaining respect and professionalism
-
This is a practical, hands-on session.
Participants practise realistic public-facing interactions, such as explaining decisions, responding to concerns or managing difficult conversations. Each section introduces a simple technique, followed by immediate practice and feedback.
The focus is on how things are said as much as what is said, helping participants make small adjustments that improve clarity, tone and trust.
